The Hearing Care Centre offers professional ear wax removal services. Facilities at our main Colchester centre include a dedicated ear treatment room, latest medical grade equipment and an operating microscope. Services are also available at selected outclinics.
Wax removals are conducted by our qualified audiologists, who have undergone accredited microsuction training with Aston University, Birmingham, and The Hearing Lab. Our audiology team is accredited by the Health & Care Professional Council (HCPC) and the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA).
Our specialist ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) nurse, Jo Knight RGN, also runs a weekly microsuction clinic at our main Colchester centre. Jo is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and trained in microsuction at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, in 2004. She brings with many years experience and we are one of the only private hearing providers in Essex to offer this additional expertise.
‘Clean, quick and very efficient’ – hear what Molly Mortimer-Taylor of Colchester has to say about her microsuction experience.
‘Your professional approach puts us at ease, you know what you are doing and are very good at it. Both my wife and I will continue to recommend you.’ John and Pat Ashley, Sudbury
‘Much less messy than syringing and it’s useful to be able to see your own ear canal on screen, before and after the procedure.‘ Jean Mullane, Tiptree
Earwax build-up in the canal before microsuction…
…and clear after microsuction
Microsuction is one of the safest procedures for removing excess ear wax or foreign bodies. It involves the use of an operating microscope and gentle suction machine, and is perfectly safe and painless in normal circumstances.
Cost: £80 per treatment.
Minimum age for our procedure is 16 years. Between 16-18 years old to be accompanied by an adult. Before your appointment, please use a wax softening preparation like Earol available from us, or sodium bicarbonate eardrops from your pharmacy. Apply once a day for three days prior to your appointment, but not on the appointment date.
For highly complex cases, we can refer you to Dr Mihaela Carmaciu in Chelmsford, a practising GP with the Diploma in Laryngology and Otology from the Royal College of Surgeons. You can also see your GP for a private referral to our local ENT consultants at the Oaks Hospital in Colchester.
Hearing aid users: Ear wax can get into your hearing aid filter and affect the performance of your instrument. We advise regular replacement of filters, which can be purchased from us and easily fitted yourself. If you are unsure, please ask us for advice.
